Artificial intelligence in the heat pump engineering process

How Generative AI is Transforming Product Development at the Bosch Home Comfort Group

The development of modern heating technologies, especially heat pumps, is highly complex. A wide variety of disciplines such as thermodynamics, electronics, software, and mechanics interact with one another. At the same time, the demands on energy efficiency, connectivity, and sustainability are increasing. To work faster, more precisely, and more innovatively in this dynamic environment, we at the Bosch Home Comfort Group are leveraging the powerful technology of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI).

At ISH 2025 in Frankfurt, it became clear: Generative AI is far more than a trend – it is already supporting us in key areas of product development.

Greater efficiency, better quality – AI in practice

At the Bosch Home Comfort Group, Generative AI is already integrated into numerous development processes. The technology helps not only accelerate existing processes but also improve their quality.

Four key areas of application for Generative AI at our company

Generative AI supports us in many areas of product development. We use it particularly intensively in four specific application areas – with measurable added value for efficiency, quality, and user-friendliness:

  • Search & Summarization:
With AI-based semantic search, we make internal knowledge more accessible – quickly, specifically, and efficiently. This allows our developers to find important information and guidelines exactly when they are needed.
  • Bot Technology:
Intelligent bots are used in customer dialogue as well as in internal support for development and service. They help answer inquiries efficiently and provide information in a targeted manner.
  • Content Creation:
Texts, images, translations, requirements, or video formats are created or reviewed automatically. This increases the consistency of technical content and accelerates editorial processes.
  • Software Development:
We automate and accelerate code creation and testing using AI tools. This increases our developers' productivity while improving quality.

Co-creation instead of automation: Humans and machines working together

Generative AI does not take over entire development tasks, but rather complements existing skills. It is used as a co-pilot that simplifies repetitive tasks and suggests new approaches to solutions – for example through design variants or automated validation steps.

Focus on Practical Benefits

In the heat pump sector, AI is particularly effective where software and system complexity interact: in the generation of technical content, in automated testing, and in the management of development knowledge. The use cases presented demonstrate that measurable efficiency gains can be achieved through targeted use – without fundamentally changing existing structures.

Fit for the Future: Strengthening Competencies, Shaping Culture

We at the Bosch Home Comfort Group are actively preparing for the future. Generative AI is already being used efficiently in many processes today – and our employees are specifically trained to use these technologies competently and responsibly. At the same time, we are promoting the transition to an AI-supporting work culture. Because one thing is clear: The influence of generative AI will continue to grow – and with it the opportunities for even more intelligent, sustainable product development.
